Tennessee Game Notes
Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker is the maestro that orchestrates one of the most explosive offenses in college football. Hooker is 2nd in the country in passer rating (191.6) and 2nd in QBR (91.2). He’s thrown for 2,338 yards, 21 touchdowns, and only 1 interception this season. Hooker is a dynamic runner as well. He’s run for 338 yards and 4 touchdowns on the year for the Volunteers. Hendon Hooker currently has the second-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy, and if he leads Tennessee to a win in Athens on Saturday, he will likely become the favorite to win the award.
Hendon Hooker’s favorite target is 6’0” 180-pound junior wide receiver, Jalin Hyatt. Hyatt has established himself as one of the best wide receivers in college football thanks to his propensity for big plays. Hyatt is 4th in the country in receiving yards (907) and leads the nation in receiving touchdowns with 14. He had his coming out party in Tennessee’s 52-49 home win over Alabama. In that game, Hyatt had 6 catches for 207 yards and 5 touchdowns. For the season, Hyatt is averaging a staggering 20.4 yards per reception. He’ll need to be on top of his game this Saturday as he faces a Georgia defense that’s 5th in the country in yards allowed per pass attempt.
Georgia Game Notes
Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett isn’t as flashy as Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker or Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, but he’s just as effective when it comes to winning games. Since the beginning of last season, Georgia is 21-1 in games that Stetson Bennett has played in. This season Bennett has thrown for 2,349 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions while posting a QBR of 84.1. The latter number ranks 10th in the country. Bennett has also run for 117 yards and 5 touchdowns on the year. He’ll likely have to put up points if Georgia wants to cover this game.
Just like last year, Georgia has one of the best rushing attacks in the country. They are averaging 5.9 yards per carry, the 4th-best mark in the nation. Georgia was led by running backs Daijun Edwards and Kenny McIntosh in a 42-20 win over Florida this past weekend. Both players ran for 90+ yards and 2 touchdowns. Establishing the run early against Tennessee could play a pivotal role in Georgia’s offensive success in this contest.
It’s worth noting that Georgia linebacker Nolan Smith will miss the rest of the year with a pectoral injury. He leads the Bulldogs in sacks on the season. Also of note, Georgia running back Kendall Milton was listed as questionable for Saturday’s game with a groin injury but has been upgraded to probable after logging practice snaps this week.

Tennessee vs. Georgia Betting Prediction
Despite what the CFP rankings say, Tennessee and Georgia might be the two best teams in the country. Because they both play in the SEC East, only one of these squads can make it to the SEC Championship Game. That’s what makes this game so important. I think it’s going to be Tennessee who makes it to Atlanta. They have 5 ranked wins on the year, and they’ve passed every test they’ve faced so far. I think they’ll have the maturity, composure, and coaching required to win this game. Tennessee is +235 on the money line and I think there’s some value there. But I’ll take the scorching hot Volunteers and the points as the pick.
