Tennessee Game Notes
For Tennessee, their best player is quarterback Hendon Hooker. He has the 4th best odds to win the Heisman Trophy at +1300. Hooker has the 5th-best QBR in the country at 90 out of 100 and he has a spotless touchdown pass-to-interception ratio of 8-0. He’s already thrown for 1,193 yards in 4 games and added 175 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. This is his second year with Tennesse head coach Josh Heupel and the results look as good as last year. Hendon Hooker was fantastic last season, throwing for 2,945 yards 31 touchdowns, and only 3 interceptions. He also had 620 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns in 2021. Hooker is shooting up NFL draft boards and it’s easy to see why. The 6’4” 218-pound senior is a true dual-threat quarterback who has all the physical tools and is still getting better. If Tennessee wins and covers on Saturday it will likely be because of their QB, Hendon Hooker.
LSU Game Notes
LSU will likely try to establish the run on Saturday. Their leading rusher is the Arizona State transfer quarterback Jayden Daniels. He’s run for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns on 5.3 yards per carry through LSU’s first five games. The second and third leading rushers for LSU are running backs Armoni Goodwin and Noah Cain. They’re both averaging over 5.7+ yards a carry on the season they’ve each scored 4+ touchdowns. Goodwin missed last week’s game against Auburn with a hamstring injury so his availability against Tennessee may be in question. Noah Cain, a Penn State transfer ceded most of the workload last week against Auburn to third-string running back Josh Williams who had 68 yards on 17 carries. If LSU is forced into long yardage situations, they may struggle to move the ball because Jayden Daniels has been inconsistent as a passer this season.
Tennessee vs. LSU Betting Trends
LSU is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in October.
LSU is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 280 passing yards in their previous game.
The road team is 6-0-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between Tennessee and LSU.
The favorite is 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between Tennessee and LSU.
Tennessee vs. LSU Betting Prediction
This matchup is about programs in different stages. Since LSU went undefeated and won the national championship in 2019, they’ve gone 15-13 straight up. This is head coach Brian Kelly’s first year in Baton Rouge and I don’t think he’s going to fix everything overnight. Kelly went 8-5 in his first year at Notre Dame and I could see LSU finishing with a similar record.
Tennessee has been trending upward for a few years now. They went 3-7 in 2020. They then brought in Josh Heupel as head coach and went 7-6 in 2021. The Volunteers now are 4-0 with two ranked wins already this year. I think Tennessee is all the way back. I think Hendon Hooker is an electrifying player at quarterback and I think Tennessee wins and covers this game.
