Texas Tech Red Raiders Game Notes
Texas Tech starting quarterback Tyler Shough suffered a broken fibula in Week 4 against West Virginia and he’ll be out until late November. In his stead, Red Raiders sophomore QB Behren Morton has emerged as the starter. In Texas Tech’s 49-28 win over Houston last weekend, Morton started and completed 14 of 22 passes for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Texas Tech starting wide receiver Jordan Brown missed the team’s last game with a hip injury and he’s officially listed as questionable for Saturday’s road tilt with Baylor. Brown has 10 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown in three games of action for the Red Raiders this season.

Baylor Game Notes
Baylor starting middle linebacker Mike Smith Jr. tore his ACL in his team’s 36-35 road win over Central Florida last weekend. He’ll be out for the rest of the season. Before the injury, Smith was third on the team in total tackles with 24 and second on the club in sacks with 1. Redshirt junior Josh White should step in and play middle linebacker the rest of the way for Baylor.
The big story for Baylor was the return of starting quarterback Blake Shapen last weekend. The Shreveport, Louisiana native returned after a three-game injury absence to complete 21 of 34 passes for 293 yards and a touchdown in his school’s spirited comeback win. With Shapen back in the fold, Baylor is in a better position to earn their second ATS win of the season this Saturday.
Texas Tech vs. Baylor Betting Trends
Texas Tech is 2-3 ATS this season.
The under is 6-4 in Texas Tech’s last 10 games.
The under is 3-1 in Baylor’s last 4 games.
Baylor is 18-13-1 ATS since the beginning of the 2021 season.
Texas Tech vs. Baylor Betting Prediction
Baylor hit a skid last month as their starting quarterback Blake Shapen missed three games. The Bears were forced to start true sophomore Sawyer Robertson at QB and they went 1-2 in that stretch with a 23-point win over Long Island sandwiched between home losses to Utah and Texas. There’s no shame in losing to those schools, especially with a backup quarterback, so I’m hesitant to write the Bears off this season.
Baylor made a miraculous comeback with Blake Shapen back at the helm last weekend, storming back from a 35-7 deficit against UCF on the road to ultimately win the game 36-35 on a field goal with less than 90 seconds left in the game. A win like that may have a positive carryover effect for Baylor, especially against a mediocre Texas Tech team. I also like the fact that the Bears get this game at home and at night, which should make it a tough environment for the Red Raiders to play in. For those reasons, I’ll fade the public and take Baylor at home on Saturday night.
