Texas Tech Red Raiders Game Notes
Texas tech redshirt sophomore QB Alan Bowman will start against Oklahoma State on Saturday. The oft-injured Bowman (6’3/215) threw five touchdowns and three interceptions in a 63-56 overtime defeat to Texas in the Red Raiders’ first Big 12 contest. However in his next game against Kansas State, the redshirt sophomore red-head predictably sustained an ankle injury that limited his effectiveness and led to him getting yanked in favor of Utah State transfer Henry Colombi for the next few games. However with Colombi ineffective against Baylor in their last game, Bowman stepped in to lead a fourth-quarter rally. With the Red Raiders erasing a 23-12 deficit in the final 15, he orchestrated a drive to set up PK Jonathan Garibay with the chip-shot 25-yard game-winning field goal with zeroes left on the clock. Bowman appears healthy and will get the stating nod against Oklahoma State this Saturday, though HC Wells cautioned that Colombi will also see reps.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Game Notes
Oklahoma State freshman QB Shane Illingworth will miss Saturday’s game against Texas Tech after testing positive for COVID-19. Illingworth (6’5/220) came on in relief in the Bedlam game last week after Spencer Sanders was knocked out of the contest. The four-star freshman started two games this year, completing 41-of-70 passes for 554 yards, a 59 percent completion rate and a four-to-one touchdown-to-interception ratio. He will now be shut down for the mandatory 10-day period following his positive test. Sanders is hoping to play against Texas Tech on Saturday with JUCO transfer Ethan Bullock serving as the number two quarterback in Illingworth’s absence.
