Toledo Rockets Game Notes
Toledo senior QB Eli Peters completed 30-of-46 passes for 339 yards and a touchdown in a 41-38 loss to Western Michigan on Wednesday. Peters (6’2/200) put his team in position to win, as Toledo had a ten point lead with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter following a four yard Bryant Koback touchdown run. However Western Michigan then marched 70 yards in 2:09 to bring the Broncos within four points and subsequently recovered the onside kick to keep their hopes alive. WMU then drove down to the nine yard line in the final seconds and lined up to spike the ball. However Jaylen Hall was standing uncovered on the left sideline, so QB Eleby faked the spike and threw the game-winning touchdown to the wide open Hall. Toledo had a 99.9 percent win probability after the Koback score, yet still managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The Rockets will try to move on from the devastating defeat next Wednesday against Eastern Michigan.
Eastern Michigan Eagles Game Notes
Eastern Michigan redshirt junior QB Preston Hutchinson completed 17-of-29 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing 17 times for 104 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-31 loss to Ball State on Wednesday. Hutchinson (6’2/207) was short handed in the passing game, as all three EMU starting wide receivers, Quian Williams, Hassan Beydoun and Dylan Drummond, did not play in the contest. If that wasn’t bad enough, starting RB Darius Boone was also missing in action, leaving redshirt junior signal caller to shoulder most of the offensive load. Even under difficult circumstances he still managed to record 6.1 yards per carry and 8.6 yards per pass while leading the Eagles to 31 points. He established himself as a goal line hawk as well, cashing in two rushing touchdowns from one-yard line. Hutchinson led a three play, 75-yard drive late in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 31-31, only for Ball State to cash in the game-winning touchdown with just :06 seconds left to seal the victory. Eastern Michigan will try to secure their first win next Wednesday against Toledo.
