Toledo Rockets Game Notes

Toledo senior QB Eli Peters completed 20-of-32 passes for 214 yards and fur touchdowns in Wednesday’s 38-3 win over Bowling Green. Peters’ job was to protect the ball, hit on the simple throws, and help finish off drives once Toledo worked into the red zone. He did jus that. Though his 6.7 yards per attempt was largely uninspiring, the fact that Peters could thread four scores without giving up an interception is promising. Peters also rushed six times for 67 yards, about half of which he picked up on a 35-yard scamper. Toledo open the year 1-0 with Western Michigan up next on the schedule.

Western Michigan Broncos Game Notes

Western Michigan sophomore QB Kaleb Eleby completed 12-of-16 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns in Wednesday’s 58-13 win over Akron. Western Michigan vs Akron was never going to be close. Eleby’s performance made sure things were never in doubt. After just a field goal on the first drive, Eleby helped rattle off six consecutive scoring drives. Though he attempted just the 16 passes, he was a machine in finding explosive, game-breaking plays down the field. He earned two completions of over 65 yards in this game, and those two passes alone made up for about half his yardage. Eleby may need to throw more in future games, but he did his job in this one. WMU face Toledo next week.
