College Football Power 10 by Title Odds
Which college football teams would comprise the top 10 based on national championship odds? Here is the list.
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Crimson Tide is a 2/3 favorite to win the national championship this season. Alabama wasn’t ranked No. 1 in the college football play committee’s initial power rankings, but clearly oddsmakers still believe Alabama to be the favorite to win it all. (Either that, or oddsmakers believe the public believes the Crimson Tide will win it all.) Nick Saban’s program is just 4-5 against the spread after failing to cover as a 20.5-point home favorite versus LSU over the weekend.

2. Georgia Bulldogs
When the first rankings were released by the college football playoff committee last Tuesday night, the Dawgs were listed No. 1. And while Georgia finds itself listed behind Alabama to win the national championship at 11/2 odds, the Bulldogs have the next-best odds behind the Tide to win this year’s title. Like ‘Bama, UGA failed to cover as a large home favorite this past weekend, beating South Carolina 24-10 as a 23.5-point favorite. That said, the Dawgs are 6-3 at the betting window this season.
3. Clemson Tigers
Dabo Swinney’s team is 7/1 to win the national championship, which is actually the same odds as the No. 4 team on this list. Clemson earned a hard-fought victory over N.C. State over the weekend, beating the Wolfpack 38-31 but failing to cover as a 10-point favorite. The Tigers are 4-4-1 against the spread in 2017.
4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
How impressive are the Irish? After opening as the No. 3 team in the college football playoff rankings, Notre Dame went out on Saturday and took care of business in a 48-37 victory over Wake Forest. The game wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate, but a back-door cover by the Demon Deacons (+16) handed the Irish their second ATS loss of the season. Notre Dame is still one of the best ATS teams in the nation at 7-2 against the spread and is 7/1 to win this year’s national title.
5. Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners saved their playoff lives on Saturday by beating in-state rival Oklahoma State 62-52 in the Bedlam Game. Baker Mayfield was sensational and Oklahoma will be a tough out if it winds up cracking the final four in the end. That said, while the Sooners have one of the most prolific offenses in the nation, can their defense step up? They didn’t two years ago when Mayfield and Co. fell to Clemson in the playoffs, but OU is still fun to watch. The Sooners are 5-4 against the spread this season and are 12/1 to win the national championship.
6. Miami Hurricanes
Maybe now the Hurricanes can get some respect. The Hurricanes were dubbed “lucky” to be undefeated but that was before Mark Richt’s team thumped Virginia Tech 28-10 as a 2-point home favorite on Saturday night. Undefeated, Miami still has to face Notre Dame this Saturday but a win over the Irish would undoubtedly catapult Miami into the playoff top 4. The Hurricanes are now 15/1 to win the national championship and improved to 4-4 against the spread with their cover on Saturday.
7. Wisconsin Badgers
Like Miami, Wisconsin is undefeated and flying under the radar. The reason being is because the Badgers haven’t beaten anyone of quality yet. That said, if they wind up heading into the Big Ten title game undefeated and win that championship matchup, then Wisconsin could force its way into the playoffs. Now 16/1 to win it all, the Badgers are 5-4 against the spread after covering as an 11-point road favorite at Indiana last Saturday.
8. Washington Huskies
A playoff loser a year ago, the Huskies remain in this year’s mix despite losing to Arizona State a few weeks ago. That game has proven to be an aberration, as Washington waxed by UCLA and Oregon the past two weeks. The Huskies’ problem is similar to Wisconsin’s, however: They haven’t played anybody. Not to mention that the Badgers are undefeated while the Huskies have the aforementioned loss to the Sun Devils. Washington is currently 22/1 to win the national championship and 6-3 at the betting window this year.
9. Auburn Tigers
The Tigers could create some playoff chaos over the next couple of weeks. Gus Malzahn’s team is currently 7-2 with losses to Clemson and LSU. The chances that they’ll make the playoffs are slim but they play Georgia next and Alabama at the end of the season in the Iron Bowl. Thus, the Tigers and their dynamic defense could cause problems for the Dawgs and Tide in their attempts to make the postseason. Auburn is 45/1 to win this year’s national championship and 4-4-1 against the spread.
10. TCU Horned Frogs
TCU earned a hard-fought 24-7 victory against Texas over the weekend. That win came on the heels of the Horned Frogs’ first loss of the season, which came the week before to Iowa State. TCU is a long shot to win it all at 45/1, but Gary Patterson’s team could jump back into the playoff mix with a win this Saturday against Oklahoma in Norman. The Frogs are 45/1 to win the national championship and 5-4 against the spread.
