Tulsa Golden Hurricane Game Notes
Tulsa redshirt senior QB Zach Smith completed 17-of-29 passes for 273 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in Saturday’s 34-26 win over UCF. Smith has been a stable force for Tulsa for some time now, but this is no doubt the best win of his career. Outgunning Dillon Gabriel is an achievement in and of itself, let alone winning the game on top of that. This is Smith’s third game with at least three touchdowns in the past two seasons. Tulsa’s next game is set for Oct. 17 against Cincinnati.
South Florida Bulls Game Notes
USF redshirt sophomore QB Jordan McCloud completed 15-of-26 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns in a 39-37 loss to Temple on Saturday. McCloud (6’0/193) kept USF in the game right until the very end, leading the Bulls on a 12 play, 72 yard touchdown drive with 1:03 remaining to bring the score to 39-37. Unfortunately he was unable to convert the game-tying two-point conversion, giving Temple the narrow victory. His highlight reel play came on a toe-tapping 13-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Ford in the back of the end zone. McCloud evaded pressure long enough to unleash the throw while getting driven to the ground by two Temple defenders. McCloud is showing improvement in his first crack at the starting quarterback job and will try to pull out a win when USF plays Tulas next Friday night.
