Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Odds
Two teams that rely on defense to win meet up in today’s Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, as Akron faces Utah State at 3:30PM ET.
According to oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag, Utah State is favored in this contest, as the Aggies are getting odds of -6.5 points against Akron. The over/under total for the game has been set at 47.5 points. These two meet today at 3:30PM ET on ESPN. The game takes place from Albertsons Stadium in Boise, ID.
Akron (7-5, 7-5 ATS) is making just its second bowl appearance in program history and first in 10 years. Coach Terry Bowden has led Akron to success with a defense thank ranks 16th in college, allowing just 328.5 yards per game. The Zips are also third in the nation in run defense, holding opponents to just 89.8 yards per game. That could pose a problem for Utah State (6-6, 5-7 ATS), which is strong on the ground than the air. Led by Devante Mays, who has 842 yards and nine rushing touchdowns, Utah State wants to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
While the Aggies aren’t great on offense, they have a strong defense that is allowing just 336.7 yards per game in total and only 180.3 passing yards per game. That shouldn’t be an issue for Akron, which also looks to run the ball more than pass. The Zips have their feature back in Conor Hundley, who has run for 883 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. However, Akron also has a mobile QB in Thomas Woodson, who has run for 544 yards while throwing for 2,034. Woodson’s dual-threat ability could play a big role in a game that should be a defensive battle.
