UAB sophomore RB DeWayne McBride (ankle) is healthy and will play in Saturday’s Independence Bowl against BYU. McBride (5’11/220) exited UAB’s season-finale UTEP with an ankle injury, but has healed up in recent weeks and is set to go in Saturday’s game against BYU. McBride has been a staple in UAB’s offense this season, rushing 177 times for 1,185 yards and 12 touchdowns, which included five games of 100+ yards on the ground.

BYU redshirt junior RB Lopini Katoa says he plans to return for another season. BYU RB Lopini Katoa told reporters at the pre-practice media availability this morning that he plans to return to BYU for another season. Katoa went through an ankle injury this season but otherwise was highly productive and should be able to continue building.
