SAN DIEGO, CA (The Spread) – The day of bowl games concludes with an interesting matchup in the 2014 Holiday Bowl, as No. 24 USC meets Nebraska at 8PM ET.

USC went 8-4 this season and 6-3 in the Pac-12, but that was somewhat disappointing as they had some early success. The Trojans won three of their last four games, including a 49-14 win over Notre Dame in the season finale. USC went 7-5 against the spread this season, but was just 2-3 ATS in its last five. The Trojans have hit the under in four of their last five.

Nebraska was a 9-3 football team in 2014 and the Huskers went 5-3 in the Big Ten. Despite the nine wins, the university fired Bo Pelini as its head coach and hired Mike Riley from Oregon State. Nebraska was 7-4-1 against the spread this year, but finished the season just 1-3-1 ATS in its last five. The Huskers hit the over in four of their last six games.

According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, USC is the clear favorite in this game, as the Trojans are getting odds of -7 points against Nebraska on Saturday night. The over/under total for the game has been set at 62 points (View Matchup). These two met twice in the last decade, with USC winning and covering the spread in both games.

The intriguing matchup of this game will be the USC run defense against Nebraska’s run attack. The Huskers averaging 248.3 yards per game on the ground this season behind the efforts of Ameer Abdullah. He has rushed for 1,523 yards and 18 touchdowns this season while quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. has added 664 yards on the ground. The USC run defense held opponents to 132.5 yards per game, making them one of the strong run defenses in the Pac-12.
