Utah State Aggies Game Notes
Jalen Royals is listed as a starter in Saturday’s season opener against Iowa. Royals has worked his way into a starting role with Utah State this offseason after playing a minimal role with the team in 2022. The 6-foot junior appeared in 10 games last season (saw under 20 snaps in all 10 games), totaling zero catches on five targets.
Iowa Hawkeyes Game Notes
Cade McNamara (quadriceps) is expected to play against Utah State on Saturday, David Eickholt of 247Sports.com reports. Barring any setbacks from now until Saturday, Iowa will have McNamara as the team’s starting quarterback against Utah State in Week 1. The senior will look to make an immediate impact at his new Big Ten school. McNamara saw limited action in 2022 but showed what he could do the year prior, having logged 210 completions for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns with Michigan. He can begin reaching that quota in Week 1 if available Saturday. But if not, Deacon Hill is expected to take McNamara’s place.

Utah State vs. Iowa Betting Prediction
Give me the under. I’ll believe that Iowa’s passing attack has improved when I see it. McNamara provides hope, but this was still an offense that ranked 112nd in the nation last season in passing. Defensively, Iowa should be as stout as ever and it’ll be difficult for Utah State to score more than 10 points. I see this as a 24-10 final.
