Virginia Tech 2011 Season Odds
(The Spread) – Despite an 0-2 start in 2010, Virginia Tech still found a way to be ACC Champions. Can the Hokies start fast in 2011 and contend for the BCS National Championship?
The Hokies went 11-3 last season and 9-0 in the ACC, winning both the conference title and Coastal Division. Still, Virginia Tech is looking for success outside of the conference, and 25th year coach Frank Beamer is still looking to get Virginia Tech its first national championship.
According to oddsmakers the Hokies have 40/1 odds to win the 2012 BCS National Championship and 7/4 odds to repeat as ACC Champs. In the Coastal Division, the Hokies have 10/11 odds to win. Virginia Tech’s over/under win total has been set at 10.
The Hokies now have seven conference titles in program history and Beamer has coached Virginia Tech to 12 10-win seasons while at the helm. The Hokies have won at least 10 games in their last seven seasons.
In 2011, Beamer returns 12 starters, including seven from an offense that average 33.9 points and 402 yards per game. Expected to lead the offense is junior running back David Wilson, who rushed for 619 yards and five touchdowns in 2010. He will now be the featured back in the offense and he has 90/1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy this season. On defense, the Hokies allowed 20.6 points and 362 yards per game. Leading the unit this season will be linebacker Bruce Taylor, who had six sacks and 91 tackles in 2010.
The 2011 schedule is pretty basic for Virginia Tech. Non-conference play should be a breeze with East Carolina being the hardest competition. In ACC play, the Hokies will get all the major opponents at home, including Clemson, Miami, and North Carolina. On paper, this is possible an unbeaten season for the Hokies.
In terms of the spread, Virginia Tech was 10-4 last season and has went 74-52-2 against the spread over the last 10 seasons. Virginia Tech was 9-3 against the spread on grass least season. When it comes to the over/under, the Hokies split 14 games right down the middle. However, the Hokies hit the over in 6 of 9 home games in 2010.
