Virginia Tech Hokies Game Notes
Louisville redshirt junior QB Malik Cunningham completed 16-of-24 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 40 yards in Saturday’s 48-16 win over Florida State. Cunningham (6’1/200) averaged 11.6 YPA and 5.7 YPC while completing 66.7% of his passes and running for at least 40 yards for the third-straight game. Can’t ask for much better than that from an efficiency and explosion aspect. Louisville had some bad luck during its 1-4 start. The 2-4 Cardinals have a critical game at home next week against Virginia Tech if they hope to finish the regular season on the right side of .500.
Louisville Cardinals Game Notes
Virginia Tech redshirt senior RB Khalil Herbert ran for 64 yards on 14 carries in a 23-16 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday. Herbert came into Saturday as one of the NCAA’s leading rushers. While he did average over 4.5 yards per carry, the former Jayhawks’ tailback was not able to make as big of an impact as he has for most of the season; much of that due to the game script changing with Wake Forest pulling off the upset. Expect Herbert (5’9/212) to be more involved next Saturday against Louisville.
Virginia Tech vs. Louisville Betting Prediction
The over is 4-1 in the Hokies’ last five road games, is 5-2 in their last seven games overall and is 5-2-1 in their last eight games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous contest. On the other side, the over is 5-0 in the Cardinals’ last five home games, is 9-2 in their last 11 games overall and has cashed the last six times Louisville allowed less than 170 yards passing in its previous game.
