Key Betting Trends
The under is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between these two teams in Miami and has cashed in 10 of the last 14 meetings overall. The Hokies, meanwhile, are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight road games versus the Hurricanes, who are just 5-11 at the betting window in their last 16 games versus the Hokies.
OUR PREDICTION: Miami quarterback Malik Rosier will have a difficult time moving the ball against Bud Foster’s defense, which has held four of its opponents to season lows in yards. Virginia Tech allows just 114 rushing yards per game and 3.1 yards per rush. Furthmore, the Hokies enter play with the 13th, second and ninth-ranked defense in rushing, scoring and total defense. Since their loss to Clemson, the Hokies have allowed just 20 points in their last three wins.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have had issues moving the ball offensively, even last week when playing a horrible North Carolina team on the road. Defensively, they remain solid up front but in their last five games the Canes have been out-rushed by a 210-120 average. Assuming the Hokies lean on their defense and running game, I like this to be a tight, low-scoring matchup between the ACC rivals.
