Virginia Tech Hokies Game Notes
Virginia Tech HC Justin Fuente said on Monday that he expects senior RB Jalen Holston’s role to continue to increase throughout the remainder of the season. The hamstring injury suffered by starter Khalil Herbert has opened the door for Holston (5’11/215) to earn a few more opportunities, and he made the most of his chances in Saturday’s win over Louisville. The senior running back carried the ball just four times on the day, but he gained 36 yards and scored two touchdowns. Even with Herbert making strides in his recovery from a hamstring injury, as he rushed for 49 yards on eight carries last weekend, Holston stands to see his chances increase moving forward.
Pittsburgh Panthers Game Notes
Pitt senior QB Kenny Pickett completed 21-of-27 passes for 210 yards and rushed for 13 yards and a touchdown on three carries in Saturday’s 41-17 win at Florida State. With it being reported earlier in the week that Pickett (6’2/220) was still limited in practice due to the left ankle injury that he suffered during an October 10 loss at Boston College, it came as a surprise that he was on the field at the start of Saturday’s game. While the senior quarterback didn’t throw a touchdown pass his impact on the Pitt offense was noticeable, and he also ran for a 10-yard score late in the second quarter. Getting Pickett back is huge for a Panther team that appeared to be spiraling in the wrong direction, and they’ll look to keep the good times rolling next week at Georgia Tech.
