Wake Forest Demon Deacons Game Notes

Wake Forest redshirt sophomore QB Sam Hartman completed 12-of-17 passes for 110 yards and ran for a touchdown with 43 yards on the ground in a 23-17 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday. Hartman was the definition of a ‘game manager’ on Saturday, as he was rarely asked to throw the ball down the field and averaged just 6.5 yards per attempt. It was good enough, however, and the 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback was able to find the end zone on the ground from nine yards away to give the Demon Deacons a 7-0 lead. Hartman and Wake Forest have won two straight, and they can make it three in a row next Saturday against Syracuse.

Syracuse Orange Game Notes

Syracuse redshirt senior QB Rex Culpepper completed 10-of-26 passes for 175 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in a 47-21 loss to Clemson on Saturday. Culpepper (6’2/221) struggled mightily against the mighty Clemson defense; he also lost a fumble that was returned for a TD. The Syracuse offense as a whole managed 325 total yards. Culpepper’s 6.7 YPA, 38.5 percent completion rate and four turnovers told the story of his afternoon. Culpepper and the Orange offense have a much easier assignment next week against Wake Forest.

Wake Forest vs. Syracuse Betting Prediction

The Demon Deacons are just 2-7 against the spread in their last nine meetings with the Orange and failed to cover in four of their last five trips to Syracuse. Wake Forest is also 0-5-1 against the number in its last six road games and is 0-6-1 against the spread in its last seven games when listed as a favorite on the road. On the other side, the Orange are 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 home games versus an opponent with a winning road record and have covered in five of their last six games following a loss.
