Washington Huskies 2016 College Football Season Win Total Prediction

Washington Win Total Prediction

After losing six times in each of Chris Petersen’s first two seasons, are the Washington Huskies a good bet to win more than 9 games in 2016?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the over/under has been set at 9 for the number of wins the Huskies will win this upcoming college football season. A year ago under Petersen, Washington won seven games but rattled off three consecutive wins to close out the season, which included a 44-31 victory over Southern Miss in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Will Washington win nine or more games in 2016? They should win at least nine, so taking the over is the play here. The Huskies’ non-conference schedule is a cakewalk, with Rutgers, Idaho and Portland State all traveling to Seattle to start the season. That’s three wins right there.

The key game will be October 8 at Oregon. Washington has lost 12 straight games to the Ducks, including last year’s 26-20 defeat at home. But Oregon is once again in a bit of a transition year and will be breaking in a new quarterback. Perhaps U-Dub will finally end the Ducks’ dominance in this series and the victory will catapult the Huskies to a Pac-12 North Division title.

Of course, in order for that to happen, sophomore quarterback Jake Browning will need to take that proverbial next step in his development. He should, especially after how well he dealt with pressure inside the pocket last night and taking care of the ball. Browning was the first true freshman quarterback to start for Petersen during his 10-year career and his growth as a player was on display throughout the year.

With sophomore running back Myles Gaskin and junior safety Budda Baker also returning for Washington, the Huskies should win at least nine games this season. On top of the three teams mentioned previously, Arizona, Oregon State, Cal and Arizona State are winnable games, plus Stanford and USC are at home. Nine wins should be the floor, so take the over with U-Dub in 2016.
