West Virginia Mountaineers Game Notes
West Virginia redshirt junior QB Jarret Doege completed 19-of-26 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 24-6 win over TCU. Doege (6’2/198) completed 70% or passing with no interceptions thrown for the second consecutive week. While Doege’s game is all about efficiency, we were pleased today to see him log 8.2 YPA on 26 throws, consistently testing the generally-stellar back-half of TCU’s defense. The 5-3 Mountaineers now have a week off before a huge game against Oklahoma.
Iowa State Cyclones Game Notes
Iowa State junior QB Brock Purdy completed 25-of-36 passes for 312 yards and a touchdown in a 23-20 victory over Texas on Friday. Purdy (6’1/212) had one of his finest performances of the year, playing his best with the game on the line. With Iowa State down 20-16 late in the fourth quarter, Purdy drove 69 yards in five plays to score the game-winning touchdown with 1:25 left in the game to give ISU their first lead. With the Longhorns selling out to stop Breece Hall, Purdy used play-action to freeze Texas’ linebackers and hit his tight ends Charlie Kolar and Dalton Soehner for 11 receptions and 190 yards. His lone touchdown pass was came on a beautifully thrown jump ball to Sean Shaw Jr. that the towering receiver hauled in over tight coverage for the 35-yard score. The victory means Iowa State will be crowned the Big 12 regular season champions if they are able to defeat West Virginia next Saturday.
