West Virginia Mountaineers Game Notes
West Virginia redshirt junior QB Jarret Doege completed 22-of-34 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-10 victory over Kansas State on Saturday. Doege (6’2/198) was in complete control of HC Neal Brown’s offense all day, keeping KSU off balance with a nice run/pass mix and leading the Mountaineers to 485 yards of total offense. Late in the second quarter, the redshirt junior signal caller made a great read under pressure by hitting Winston Wright on a swing-route out of the backfield where he beat a converging KSU defender down the sideline for a 15-yard touchdown pass to give West Virginia a commanding 24-3 lead. Doege has now thrown a touchdown pass in 26 straight games dating back to his tenure at Bowling Green. West Virginia has a big game against Texas coming up next Saturday.
Texas Longhorns Game Notes
Texas senior QB Sam Ehlinger completed 18-of-34 passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday’s 41-34 win over Oklahoma State. Ehlinger’s rollercoaster season continues, this week with another downturn. Sure, the Longhorns still got the win, but Ehlinger’s efforts had little to do with it. He struggled to throw the ball accurately all afternoon, barely completed more than half his passes. What’s worse is that Ehlinger was not even hitting on shot plays to make up for the inconsistency. Texas hit on one pass play that went for more than 20 yards. It’s okay to be inconsistent if the highs are high, but they were not for Ehlinger on Saturday. To his credit, Ehlinger did not give up any interceptions in this one. Texas will need Ehlinger to step up when they face West Virginia in a week.
