Western Michigan Broncos Game Notes

Western Michigan sophomore RB Sean Tyler is expected to be part of a running back committee this season. Tyler (5’9/185) served as first team All-MAC RB LeVante Bellamy’s apprentice last year, rushing 68 times for 390 yards and five touchdowns with a crisp 5.7 YPC. He was being groomed to take over starting duties, however apparently HC Tim Lester had other ideas following the arrival of high-profile transfers Jaxson Kincaide (Nevada) and La’Darius Jefferson (Michigan State). The Broncos will likely need contributions from all three if they hope to topple Toledo and in-state rival Central Michigan for the MAC West title.

Akron Zips Game Notes

Former Louisiana redshirt sophomore QB Brayden Hawkins transferred to Akron. Hawkins (6’2/222) now hits his third collegiate stop after opening his career in the JUCO ranks before signing on with Louisiana in advance of the 2019 campaign. He did not see any game action during his year with the Ragin’ Cajuns and went on to enter the NCAA transfer portal late in the spring. With the Zips, Hawkins figures to have to sit out the upcoming season, unless he manages to net an NCAA eligibility waiver. On the Louisiana side of things, Levi Lewis is already locked in as starter and the program should be able to weather this depth loss without issue.
