Western Michigan Broncos Game Notes
Western Michigan sophomore QB Kaleb Eleby completed 20-of-29 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns, plus another two rushing touchdowns in a dramatic 41-38 victory over Toledo Wednesday night. Wednesday night MACtion delivered one heck of a game, as Eleby (6’1/205) brought Western Michigan back from a 10 point deficit with under three minutes remaining to secure the last-second victory for WMU. The sophomore signal caller drove 70 yards in 2:09 to bring the Broncos within four points with under a minute left in the game. The Broncos subsequently recovered the onside kick to keep their hopes alive. Eleby then hit three-straight passes to bring Western Michigan down to the nine yard line, and with time winding down called for a spike to stop the clock. However he then spotted Jaylen Hall lined up without a defender on him on the far side of the field and in a brilliant improvisation, he faked the spike and lofted the game winning nine-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Hall. WMU will carry their 2-0 record into a pivotal matchup with fellow unbeaten Central Michigan next Wednesday.
Central Michigan Chipewas Game Notes
Central Michigan redshirt freshman QB Daniel Richardson completed 13-of-19 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-10 blowout victory over Northern Illinois on Wednesday. Richardson (5’10/200) managed the game effectively but only needed to throw 19 passes thanks to CMU’s defense shutting out NIU for three quarters. Despite the low passing volume he averaged 10.3 yards per attempt while hitting on two explosive deep throws. Though he picked up yards in chunks, his efficiency was somewhat underwhelming, as he only converted one-of-eleven third-down situations. His best throw came on a perfectly thrown hitch-and-go pattern to Dallas Dixon that resulted in a 58-yard touchdown. Central Michigan hosts in-state rival Western Michigan in a game that may decide who wins the MAC West.
Western Michigan vs. Central Michigan Betting Prediction
The Broncos have covered the spread their last four trips to Mount Pleasant while the road team has also covered in eight of the last 10 series meetings. The Broncos are also 3-1-1 against the number in their last five games overall, are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games played on Wednesday and are 7-1 at the betting window in their last eight games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. On the other side, the Chippeawas are just 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games versus an opponent with a winning record.
