Oddsmakers Top 4 in College Football

Who do oddsmakers rank in the top 4 in college football? Let’s take a look.

Note: This top 4 is comprised of the four teams with the best national championship odds.

1. Alabama (5/7)

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Crismon Tide have 5/7 odds to win it all, making them national championship favorites. Damien Harris has been paramount to ‘Bama this season, rushing for 8.6 yards per carry. That ranks No. 6 in the FBS and more than half of his runs have gone for 5-plus yards. He’s the only running back in the top-30 of rushing yards with fewer than 100 carries, as he’s rushed for 10-plus yards 17 times out of 81 attempts and scored a touchdown on 12 percent of his carries. Alabama gets LSU at home this Saturday night and is a 21-point favorite coming off its bye week.

2. Ohio State (3/1)

After their thrilling comeback against Penn State on Saturday, the Buckeyes are back in the national title hunt. While Alabama has the best odds to win this year’s national championship, Ohio State now has the next-best odds. If J.T. Barrett plays as well the rest of the season as he did on Saturday night in Columbus, the Buckeyes have a good shot to run the table. The redshirt senior completed 33-of-39 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 95 yards in the thrilling 39-38 victory. After failing to cover as a 7-point favorite versus PSU, OSU is -17 on the road this Saturday afternoon against Iowa

3. Clemson Tigers (8/1)

Ohio State’s upset of Penn State and Iowa State’s 14-7 victory over TCU allowed Clemson to jump back into the playoff conversation. The Tigers, listed at 8/1 to win the national championship, have the next-best odds behind Alabama and Ohio State. Quarterback Kelly Bryant completed 22-of-33 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 67 yards in Saturday’s 24-10 win over Georgia Tech. The conditions were nasty but Bryant played well in his return from a concussion suffered in Clemson’s loss to Syracuse three weeks ago. A healthy Bryant is a must for the Tigers if they want to have an opportunity to defend their title. Up next for Clemson is N.C. State, which is listed as a 7.5-point home underdog. Over 60% of public bettors are backing Clemson and laying the points Saturday afternoon.

5. Georgia Bulldogs (12/1) & Notre Dame (12/1)

We have a tie in terms of the odds. But Georgia and Notre Dame, which played each other earlier this season, have 12/1 odds to win the national championship. Then there’s a drop to 20/1 for Penn State. The Dawgs crushed Florida in “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” last Saturday thanks to Sony Michel (137 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just six carries) and Nick Chubb (77 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown). The Irish, meanwhile, thumped an underrated N.C. State team at home on Saturday. Quenton Nelson and Notre Dame’s offensive line pounded the rock with ease despite facing a quality N.C. State run defense. Brandon Wimbush completed 10-of-19 passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. He’s more polished as a runner than a passer, but he’s improved slightly in that area. Georgia hosts South Carolina as a 24-point home favorite on Saturday while Notre Dame hosts Wake Forest as a 13.5-point favorite.
