Will Miami vs. Virginia Tech in Week 8 be low-scoring for bettors? 10/20/16

Miami vs. Virginia Tech Pick

Will the Miami and Virginia Tech matchup on Thursday night be low-scoring between the two ACC teams?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Hokies are now 6-point home favorites versus the Hurricanes after opening as a 4-point favorite on Sunday evening. As for the total, the number hasn’t moved after opening at 51 points, but that could change the closer we get to the 7:00PM ET kickoff on Thursday night.

Bet College Football Week 8 Games

After winning four straight games to start the year, Miami has since dropped back-to-back games to Florida State and North Carolina, respectively. On Thursday night the Hurricanes will be underdogs for the first time this season. When they won those four games to open the year, they covered the number in each one of those matchups. But in their losses to the Seminoles and Tar Heels, they failed to cover as a 1.5-point and 6-point favorite to drop to 4-2 ATS in 2016.

The Hokies are coming off an ugly loss to Syracuse as a 23-point favorite. Outside of being heavily favored, the defeat was surprising considering Virginia Tech beat North Carolina 34-3 as a 3-point favorite the week before and had won three straight entering the contest. The loss dropped the Hokies to 4-2 on the year and 3-3 against the spread.

OUR PREDICTION: The under has been an excellent bet in this series, cashing in 10 of the last 13 meetings overall and in five of the last seven meetings in Blacksburg. The under is also 13-6 in the Hurricanes’ last 19 conference games and is 5-1 in their last six matchups with opponents that own winning records. On the other side, the under is 16-5-1 in the Hokies’ last 22 games in October and is 39-18-1 in their last 58 conference games.
