Can Gaskin run over SMiss?
Facing one of the toughest offenses in the country today, Washington will need to find offense when it meets Southern Miss in the Heat of Dallas Bowl.
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Washington is favored in this game, as the Huskies are getting odds of -8.5 points against the Golden Eagles. The over/under total for the game has been set at 55 points. These two meet today at 2:20PM ET on ESPN. The game is being held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX.
Southern Miss (9-4, 10-3 ATS) puts up 40.6 points and 519.8 yards per game on offense, which means Washington (6-6, 7-5 ATS) will either need a dominant defense today, or a big day from running back Myles Gaskin. The Huskies have a pretty good defense, which holds opponents to just 17.8 points and 349.9 yards per game, but stopping Southern Miss won’t be a likely scenario.
The Huskies will turn to Gaskin, a 5-9 freshman that has run for 1,121 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2015. Oddsmakers expect another big day for Gaskin, as he has been given an over/under of 130.5 rushing yards in this game. Gaskin has eclipsed that total in four games this year. Southern miss has the 33rd-ranked run defense, giving up 140.8 yards per game. Regardless of how the Washington defense does today, Gaskin should get plenty of chances to have a big game and break off some lengthy runs.
