Wisconsin Badgers Game Notes
Wisconsin sophomore QB Graham Mertz completed 21-of-38 passes for 171 yards and an interception in a 23-13 upset loss to Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. Mertz (6’3/227) didn’t have a running game to rely on Saturday afternoon and his struggles in the passing game reflected just that. The epitome of his struggles boil down to two plays in the second half. Up 10-6 in the third quarter, Mertz threw a corner route too far inside that DB Justin Walley intercepted. The Gophers turned that into a touchdown just two plays later to take the lead. The other was with the game winding down. Down ten, Mertz threw the ball to nobody on fourth down. Really frustrating to see your QB throw the ball to an empty patch of grass instead of giving one of your receivers the opportunity to make a play. The Badgers finished with an 8-4 record and will play in a bowl game.
Arizona State Sun Devils Game Notes
Arizona State QB Jayden Daniels will not declare for the 2022 NFL Draft. Daniels (6’3/185) is returning to Arizona State for another year and with that, he won’t be an NFL Draft name to watch until at least the 2023 event. This is a solid decision on Daniels’ part, considering he does bring NFL-level talent to the table but still has plenty of room to grow as a pure passer. Daniels completed 186-of-280 passing attempts this year for 2,221 yards with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
