Wyoming Cowboys Game Notes
Wyoming improved to 2-0 after defeating Portland State in Laramie, but they failed to cover the big 28-point margin. The Cowboys followed up one of their biggest wins in team history by taking down the Vikings by two scores, and they’ll now face an uphill battle in their first road bout of the year.
Wyoming’s got a gamer at quarterback in Andrew Peasley, and while they may be in over their heads in this contest, he’s performed well thru two weeks. The fifth-year senior led the Cowboys to an upset home win over Texas Tech, and he tossed three touchdown passes in the win over Portland State. Peasley will face a stiff task here in Austin, but he’ll have plenty of points to play with from a betting standpoint. Peasley has passed for 350 yards, with five touchdowns to one interception, while rushing for 111 yards and a score on the ground thus far.
Texas Longhorns Game Notes
Texas jumped to 2-0 after defeating Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and coming through as 6-point favorites. The Longhorns climbed a tall mountain last week by taking down the Tide on the road, and they’ll now look to avoid any form of meltdown here with the Red River Shootout looming in a few weeks.
For all of the talk Quinn Ewers has endured over the past 36+ months, from the transfer process, to getting hurt in last year’s matchup with Bama, to the signing of highly touted QB Archie Manning, he left his mark not only in the history books, but the hearts of Longhorn fans. Ewers performed heroically in Tuscaloosa last weekend, and he now has Texas in position to return to being a national power. It’s very unlikely he plays a full game here, but the sophomore quarterback should have another strong performance. Through two starts, Ewers has passed for 609 yards with six touchdowns to no interceptions.

Texas faced a much stiffer task on the field in Tuscaloosa last week, and while there is very little chance of an upset here, this is going to be a tough spread to cover. Wyoming staying within four scores doesn’t sound extraordinary consider the veteran group they have, so there’s another angle to avoid the tough margin. With the magic number sitting within reach, I like targeting the total for this matchup, as Texas could wind up covering it in blowout fashion, with some added assistance from Wyoming.
