(STATS) – The crowd sizes at three of the four host sites were down in the FCS quarterfinals from the second round as attendance continued to lag in the playoffs this weekend.
Only Eastern Washington saw an increase as the 5,503 who attended the Eagles’ all-Big Sky quarterfinal with UC Davis was up about 5 percent.
The other attendance figures were: Maine at Weber State: 7,726; Colgate at North Dakota State: 16,404; and South Dakota State at Kennesaw State: 3,242.
The three-round total of 142,327 is down 15.6 percent from last year’s 168,527 through the quarterfinals. North Dakota State and Eastern Washington will host the semifinals.
This is the sixth season since the playoffs expanded to 24 teams in 2013. Last year’s 23 playoff games drew 222,424 fans and the all-time record for attendance is 258,066 in 2015.
