(STATS) – South Dakota State cornerback Jordan Brown faced his share of All-America receivers during his college career – Jake Wieneke, Dallas Goedert, Cade Johnson – and that was just in practice.
It helped prepare Brown for the next challenge – the NFL.
He will get the opportunity as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, who selected Brown in the seventh round with the 223rd overall pick of the NFL Draft Saturday.
The 6-foot, 201-pound Brown was a STATS second-team All-American as a senior. During his four-year career, he totaled 148 tackles, eight interceptions and 35 passes defended.
In his three seasons as a starter, South Dakota State posted the three deepest postseason runs in school history – the FCS quarterfinals in 2016 and the semifinals in each of the past two seasons.
Assessed NFLDraftBible.com: “Rare size with good overall weight distribution. Thick frame that makes him looks more like a safety than a corner, though his hips are certainly corner-caliber. Shows an easy transition from backpedal to vertical, smoothly changing directions to stick in the hip of receivers in man coverage. A touch high in his backpedal, but chops his feet and breaks downhill quickly. Good route awareness overall, anticipating receivers’ cuts and keeping his frame between the quarterback and his intended target.”
