(STATS) – Some NFL Draft analysts will believe the Los Angeles Chargers gained first-round value in Nasir Adderley late in the second round Friday night.
The former Delaware free safety is ready to convince the Chargers after they selected him with the 60th overall pick.
The 29th all-time draft choice from Delaware, Adderley also is the second-highest in Blue Hens history behind only quarterback Joe Flacco, who the Baltimore Ravens chose 18th overall in the first round in 2008.
The 6-foot, 206-pound Adderley, a cousin to Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Herb Adderley, mixes superb range with a hard-hitting style. While often shutting down his area of the field, he had 265 tackles and 11 interceptions in 44 career games at Delaware.
NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah lauded Adderley for “the mad cover skills and he’s a playmaker. The Chargers, (strong safety) Derwin James has a running mate.”
Adderley was projected for the first round by some draft analysts, but some injuries and a sluggish 40-yard time in the 40-yard dash (4.62 yards) were likely concerning.
Assessed NFLDraftBible.com of Adderley: “Ideal build for the position with broad shoulders, long arms and a tapered frame. Legitimate NFL athlete, with impressive initial quickness, change of direction and acceleration, including impressive closing speed when delivering tackles. Above-average speed is enhanced further due to stellar instincts, forged by starting 40-plus games over his college career.”
