(STATS) – Eastern Illinois running back Isaiah Johnson was named the National Team’s MVP in their 24-16 loss to the American squad at the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl Sunday in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Johnson rushed for a 30-yard touchdown and finished with 67 yards on four carries.
Among other FCS-level players, Texas Southern’s Brad Woodard collected a game-high 125 all-purpose yards on four touches for the Nationals – a 76-yard punt return, a 25-yard kickoff return and 24 yards on two carries.
Also for the National team, Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges, the 2018 STATS FCS Walter Payton Award winner, completed 2 of 7 passes for 19 yards and was sacked twice.
Wagner quarterback T.J. Linta was 4 of 7 for 90 yards with a 43-yard touchdown pass and an interception for the victorious American team.
Also for the Americans, his former Wagner teammate Ryan Fulse carried the ball six times for 22 yards, while North Alabama defensive end Jaylin Dailey had a pair of sacks for 17 yards in losses. Saint Francis’ Andrew Zecca averaged 53.3 yards on four punts with a long of 67.
