(STATS) – It’s a good thing for FCS playoff attendance that North Dakota State kept advancing to its second straight and record seventh national title.
The four largest crowds were at Bison games as the overall 23-game total of 185,998 fans dropped over 16 percent from 222,424 in the 2017 season.
North Dakota State’s 38-24 win over Eastern Washington in the championship game drew a sellout crowd of 17,802 to Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, last Saturday. The Bison attendance figures at the Fargodome included the playoff high of 18,286 (semifinal versus South Dakota State) as well as 17,007 (second round versus Montana State) and 16,404 (quarterfinal versus Colgate).
The only other games with over 10,000 fans were in the first round with Jacksonville State hosting ETSU (11,024) and Montana State hosting Incarnate Word (10,017).
The playoffs expanded to 24 teams in 2013. The all-time record for attendance is 258,066 in 2015.
