(STATS) – Attendance in the first round of the FCS playoffs is always subpar over Thanksgiving weekend, but it was thrown a (turkey) bone with three hosts that ranked among the top 10 during the regular season.
The eight-game total of 50,931 on Saturday was up over 22 percent from last year’s 39,667 fans in the first round.
Jacksonville State entered the weekend sixth in attendance average and drew a first-round high 11,024 to its 34-27 win over ETSU.
Montana State, which was eighth in attendance, drew 10,017 for Incarnate Word, and James Madison, third, drew 7,297 for Delaware despite inclement weather. Nicholls drew the round’s third-largest crowd, 8,571 for San Diego.
