MIAMI (AP) -Kirby Freeman was Miami’s starting quarterback Saturday against North Carolina State, filling in for the injured Kyle Wright.
It was Freeman’s third start of the season and seventh in his Miami career.
Wright suffered a sprained left ankle and sprained tendon behind his left knee on Oct. 20 in Miami’s 37-29 win at Florida State. Freeman relieved him in the second quarter of that game, and wound up throwing the winning touchdown pass with 1:15 left.
Wright practiced during the week, but said the effects of the sprains were holding him back.
