Jacksonville State QB Jenkins arrested

(STATS) – Jacksonville State’s All-America quarterback Eli Jenkins was arrested early Wednesday morning after police responded to a call of domestic violence at an apartment complex on the university’s Alabama campus.
Jenkins, the 21-year-old standout who recently helped Jacksonville State to a national runner-up finish in the FCS, was scheduled to be held in the city jail for at least 12 hours under state law involving domestic violence, the Anniston Star reported. Police did not describe to the newspaper the incident that led to Jenkins’ arrest just before 1 a.m.
Jenkins has a son, Kaydon Maurice Jenkins.
“The Jacksonville State Department of Athletics is aware of the situation involving quarterback Eli Jenkins,” interim athletic director Greg Seitz said in a statement to STATS. “We are in the process of gathering information on the incident and it would be inappropriate to make any other statements until we have more details.”
Jenkins, from Birmingham, just completed his redshirt junior season. Jacksonville State went 13-2 and won the Ohio Valley Conference title as he captured the league’s offensive player of the year award and was a STATS FCS All-America first-team selection.
The Gamecocks fell 37-10 to North Dakota State in the national championship game in Frisco, Texas.
Jenkins, a 2 1/2-year starter, has one season of eligibility remaining.
