WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) John Loose has been promoted to defensive coordinator at Army.
He had been a defensive assistant and succeeds Jay Bateman, who became North Carolina’s defensive coordinator after the regular season. The move was announced Friday by coach Jeff Monken.
Loose was the interim coordinator during Army’s 70-14 victory over Houston in the Armed Forces Bowl last month. The Black Knights had 10 sacks.
Loose served as defensive coordinator for 14 seasons at Lafayette of the Championship Subdivision and also at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for three years.
Army (11-2) enjoyed a school record for wins and ended the year ranked No. 19. It was eighth nationally in total defense and fourth in third-down conversion percentage defense.
