(STATS) – Lehigh named former Holy Cross coach Tom Gilmore as its new head coach on Tuesday.
Gilmore, 54, posted a 72-81 record at Holy Cross, including 41-40 in the Patriot League, over 14 seasons from 2004-17. Previously, he spent four seasons as Lehigh’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 2000-2003.
Gilmore replaces Andy Coen, who stepped down after 13 seasons following an early diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
“I have known Tom for many years, having coached against him on many occasions,” Coen said. “Tom’s teams at Holy Cross were always prepared and played hard. He knows the Lehigh community well after spending time here under Kevin Higgins and Pete Lembo. He is aware of Lehigh’s great football tradition and I am sure he will continue to lead this program in the right direction.”
Gilmore was a two-time Patriot League coach of the year and led Holy Cross to a league title and FCS playoff appearance in 2009.
The 1986 graduate of Penn has more than 30 years of coaching experience at high-end academic institutions, mostly in the Patriot and Ivy leagues. He spent the 2018 season coaching on defense at Wake Forest.
