(STATS) – Maine’s deepest run in the FCS playoffs has cost the CAA Football champion its head coach.
Joe Harasymiak is expected to depart Maine to become an assistant coach at Minnesota, according to reports.
Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel first reported the move.
Harasymiak, 32, was still one of the younger head coaches on the FCS level even after three seasons with the Black Bears. He has a 20-15 record, including this year’s 10-4 campaign, when they won the CAA title for the first time since 2013 and advanced to the FCS semifinals, where they lost at Eastern Washington 50-19 last Saturday.
He has been at Maine since 2011, serving five seasons on the defensive side of the ball until coach Jack Cosgrove’s retirement following the 2015 season.
P.J. Fleck is in his second season as Minnesota’s coach. The Big Ten member is 6-6 heading into the Quick Lane Bowl against Georgia Tech on Dec. 26.
