MIAMI (AP) -Miami freshman quarterback Robert Marve is facing misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest without violence and minor criminal mischief.
Miami Police spokesman Delrish Moss said Saturday Marve was arrested late Wednesday in the city’s Coconut Grove neighborhood after he became upset and broke a car mirror.
A police officer walking by saw Marve damage the car and approached him. Marve tried to run away, Moss said, but was caught and taken into custody without incident. He signed a promise to appear in court later and was not taken to jail, Moss said.
Marve, a highly touted recruit from Tampa, Fla., was on the sideline for the Hurricanes’ 19-16 overtime loss to North Carolina State on Saturday afternoon. The university announced the arrest after the game, releasing a statement saying Marve met with coach Randy Shannon “regarding some personal issues that caused him to have an incident.”
“The university and the athletic department are helping Marve with his issues,” the statement said.
Marve has not played this season and is expected to receive a medical redshirt. He was injured in a car crash in July, needing several weeks to recover from a broken wrist and a lacerated hand.
The Miami locker room was closed and players no longer available for comment when the arrest was announced.
