ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) – Michigan wide receiver LaTerryal Savoy has been reinstated to the team after being acquitted of an indecent exposure charge, coach Lloyd Carr said Monday.
“He’s back on the team,” Carr said during his weekly press conference without elaborating.
Savoy, 21, of Mamou, La., had been accused of exposing himself in July to a woman inside Michigan Stadium. The misdemeanor charge carries up to one year in jail. The 21-year-old woman was an athletic trainer working at a summer baseball camp, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.
Defense lawyer Nicholas Roumel told The Ann Arbor News the jury in Ann Arbor’s 15th District Court took about 30 minutes to reach a verdict Friday.
“I think it says two things,” Roumel said. “The evidence was simply not there. And it also says a lot about LaTerryal, that he is not the type of person who would ever do the type of crime that he was accused of.”
