(STATS) – Montana senior defensive end Tyrone Holmes has accepted an invitation to play in the 91st East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 23 at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida.
The FCS leader in sacks (17) would become the 10th player in Grizzlies history to play in the All-Star classic. Danny Kistler was the most recent in 2013.
“It’s a huge honor to be invited to play in a game like this,” Holmes said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the country, but I’m even more excited to continue my senior season here at Montana.”
On Saturday, Holmes and No. 16 Montana (8-4) will play at second-ranked North Dakota State (9-2) in the second round of the FCS playoffs.
Holmes will play in the Shrine Game with Southern Utah’s James Cowser. The defensive ends and Portland State safety Patrick Onwuasor will decide the STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Year award next month.
In addition to Holmes and Cowser, FCS players already committed to the game are North Dakota State offensive tackle Joe Haeg, South Carolina State defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and cornerbacks Deiondre’ Hall of Northern Iowa and LeShaun Sims of Southern Utah.
