PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Steve Morgan broke the Ivy League record for most field goals in a career and Brown University forced six turnovers in a 33-24 victory over defending champion Princeton on Saturday.
Morgan, a senior from New Albany, Ohio, kicked field goals of 30, 44, 22 and 21 yards for a career total of 46. The previous record was 45 set by Derek Javarone of Princeton (1-1, 2-3) from 2002-05.
Brown (1-1, 2-3) recovered four fumbles and intercepted two passes en route to halting a three-game losing streak.
Jake Powers recovered two fumbles and Brown converted each into a touchdown.
James Develin?s sack of quarterback Bill Foran forced the first fumble and Powers recovered the ball on Princeton’s 12 midway through the first quarter. Mike Dougherty threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Sewall in the far left corner of the end zone for a 7-0 lead.
Powers recovered a fumble by Ken Gunter early in the third quarter which helped Brown increase its lead to 24-10 when Sewall ran two yards off right tackle.
Dougherty, who leads all Division I-AA quarterbacks in passing yardage, completed 26-of-46 passes for 360 yards and two touchdowns. Eight of his passes were caught by Buddy Farnham, who ranks sixth in the nation in receptions, for 128 yards and one touchdown.
