(STATS) – Northern Arizona coach Jerome Souers is retiring after 21 seasons guiding the Big Sky program, according to reports.
Souers will end his career with a 123-114 record, including a Big Sky-record 85 wins in conference games. His 2003 squad earned a share of the Big Sky championship and was one of five that he led to the FCS playoffs.
This year’s injury-plagued team finished 4-6.
The Arizona Daily Sun reported athletic director Mike Marlow and university president Rita Cheng had pushed for Souers to return next season.
Last year, former athletic director Lisa Campos told Souers he wouldn’t be brought back after the 2017 season, but after she left for another school, NAU reversed course while the Lumberjacks were on their way to making the playoffs.
