LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -Former Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne is returning to the school as the interim athletic director.
University chancellor Harvey Perlman made the announcement Tuesday in a news release.
Osborne takes over for Steve Pederson, who was fired as athletic director on Monday.
The 70-year-old Osborne returns 10 years after finishing a celebrated coaching career that culminated with three national championships in his last four seasons.
Since leaving coaching, Osborne has served three terms in Congress, made an unsuccessful gubernatorial run, taught in the university’s business school and worked as a consultant for local college athletic departments.
