Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd leaving Vols, plans to transfer

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd has announced that he plans to transfer, leaving the Volunteers without one of the most prolific runners in school history.
Volunteers coach Butch Jones announced Monday that Hurd informed him of his intentions to transfer. Jones said, ”I’m very thankful for everything he’s done for our football program.”
The announcement comes two days after Hurd ran for just 16 yards on eight carries in a stunning 24-21 loss to South Carolina that dropped the Vols from the Top 25.
Hurd has rushed for 2,638 yards, putting him 440 yards away from Travis Henry’s school record. Hurd, a junior, has rushed for 451 yards this season while averaging 3.7 yards per carry.
Tennessee (5-3) hosts Football Championship Subdivision program Tennessee Tech (3-5) on Saturday.
