(STATS) – North Dakota senior quarterback Andrew Zimmerman will make his first career start on Saturday and it can hardly be more difficult – on the road against No. 1 North Dakota State, the two-time defending FCS champion.
Zimmerman is replacing season-opening starter Nate Ketteringham, who suffered a right leg injury against Drake last week. Zimmerman played the final two quarters, completing 7 of 9 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns.
“We are very proud of how Andrew played in Week 1,” coach Bubba Schweigert said. “He’s a senior who has spent a lot of time here, and we are looking forward to him leading our offense at this point in the season. Sports medicine will continue to work hard along with Nate to work to get him back as soon as possible.”
Zimmerman, a native of Monroe, Washington, who arrived at North Dakota in 2017 after playing one season at Fresno City College, has passed for 482 yards and five touchdowns with four interceptions in 11 career games with the Fighting Hawks.
North Dakota is facing North Dakota State for the 112th time, but for only the second time since 2003. The Bison, members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference which UND will join next year, have won 64 of their last 66 nonconference games inside the Fargodome..
