TAMPA BAY: The Bucs lost for the fifth consecutive week when the Rams beat them 28-13 last Sunday in Tampa. For the second time in as many weeks, quarterback Josh Freeman threw four interceptions. He completed 30-of-54 passes for 372 yards with one touchdown but the interceptions once again did his team in. Doug Martin was also held to 62 yards on 18 carries while Mike Williams caught seven passes for 132 yards with one touchdown. Vincent Jackson also caught seven passes for 108 yards and Martin finished with seven catches for 57 yards. The loss dropped Tampa Bay to 6-9 overall and 9-5-1 against the spread. The Bucs have failed to cover in each of their last three games as they failed to cover as a 3-point favorite last week. With no playoff spot on the line this week, Tampa Bay will try to finish its season on a high note this Sunday against an Atlanta team with nothing to play for.
ATLANTA: With their 31-18 victory over the Lions last Saturday, the Falcons clinched home field advantage throughout the entire postseason. Matt Ryan completed 25-of-32 passes for 279 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the victory, while Michael Turner rushed for 41 yards on 13 carries. Roddy White also had a huge game, catching eight passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Julio Jones caught seven passes for 71 yards and one touchdown, while Tony Gonzalez was held to just one catch for nine yards. The victory improved Atlanta’s record to 13-2 and 9-5-1 against the spread. The Falcons have now won three in a row and five of their last six, and have covered the spread in two straight games and in three of their last four contests. With home field advantage clinched, Ryan is unlikely to play the full game. Backup Luke McCown will likely play the majority of the game, or rookie Dominique Davis.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, there is no point spread for this game because it’s unclear who will start at quarterback for the Falcons (or if Ryan starts, how long Atlanta is expected to play him). Tampa Bay enters play with a 6-9 overall record and is 3-4 on the road, while Atlanta is 13-2 overall and 7-0 at home this season.
TRENDS: The favorite is 3-0-1 against the spread in the last four meetings between these two teams, while the road team is 5-2-1 ATS in the last eight meetings between these two teams again. The Bucs, meanwhile, are 4-1 against the number in their last five trips to Atlanta and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 meetings overall with the Falcons.
