CHICAGO: Chicago comes into this game at 9-6 overall and on the outside looking in for the playoffs. Chicago needs a win over Detroit along with a Minnesota loss to Green Bay to get into the playoffs. The Bears picked up a 13-7 win over the Lions at home back on Oct. 22, but they have currently lost five of their last seven games. Chicago did earn a 28-13 win over the Cardinals last Sunday on the road. In the win, Chicago once again relied heavily on its defense, as it held the Cardinals to 248 yards and forced three turnovers. The Bears had two defensive touchdowns in the process. The Chicago offense had only 297 total yards as Jay Cutler was 12 of 26 passing for 146 yards with one touchdown. Cutler has failed to throw for 150 yards in his last two games and has only one 300-yard passing game this season.
DETROIT: The Lions are in the midst of a 7-game losing streak following a 31-18 loss to the Falcons last week at home. Detroit hasn’t been able to put a whole game together in some time. The offense still managed to rack up 522 total yards against Atlanta, but had three costly turnovers in the game. The defense gave up only 344 yards to the Falcons, but failed to get the key stops when needed. The Detroit offense was led by Calvin Johnson, who caught 11 passes for 225 yards and set a new single-season receiving record in the process. Johnson passed Jerry Rice for yards in a season, as he currently sits at 1,892 yards. He could be the first receiver to ever get 2,000 yards in a season. In the first meeting with Chicago, Johnson had just three catches for 34 yards.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Chicago is the favorite on the road, as the Bears have odds of -3 points against the Lions. The over/under total has been set at 44.5 points. Chicago is 9-6 on the season, 4-3 on the road and 7-8 against the spread. Detroit is 4-11 overall, 2-5 at home and 5-10 against the spread.
TRENDS: The Bears are just 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 meetings with the Lions. Chicago is also just 2-6 against the spread in their last 8 conference games. Detroit is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games after a double-digit loss at home, but just 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games against NFC North opponents.
