DETROIT: The Lions are coming off a 27-20 loss to the Packers last Sunday night. Detroit has now lost five straight since getting to 4-4 on the season. The Lions held the Packers to just 288 yards of offense and won the time of possession by almost 15 minutes, yet still found a way to lose. The Lions gave up a defensive touchdown to the Packers in the loss, which was the ninth TD scored by a defense or special teams against Detroit this season. Matthew Stafford was 27 of 45 passing for 264 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Stafford has had at least 18 incompletions in his last four games. The incompletions don’t seem to be affecting Calvin Johnson, who has five straight games with at least 118 receiving yards. He has 96 catches for 1,546 yards this season and is in the running to get 2,000 receiving yards for the season.
ARIZONA: The Cardinals are coming off an awful, 58-0 loss to the Seahawks last week. Arizona has now dropped nine straight after starting the season 4-0 with a win over the Patriots included in that start. Arizona has failed to score more than 19 points in any game in this losing streak. Against the Seahawks, the offense totaled just 154 yards and had eight turnovers. The defense wasn’t much better, allowing 493 total yards. The Arizona quarterbacks combined to go 19 of 41 passing for 133 yards and four interceptions. Arizona ranks dead last in scoring (14.3 ppg) and yardage (269.5 ypg) in the NFL. Receiver Larry Fitzgerald has had a very down year, catching just 57 passes for 652 yards and four touchdowns.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Lions are 6-point favorites versus the Cardinals, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 43.5 points. Detroit is 4-9 on the season, 2-5 on the road and 5-8 against the spread. Arizona is 4-9 overall, 3-3 at home and 5-7-1 against the spread.
TRENDS: The Lions are 0-4 against the spread in their last 4 trips to Arizona while the home team is 8-0 against the spread in the last 8 games in this series. The favorite has also covered in 6 of the last 7 in this series. These two teams have combined to hit the over in 7 of their last 8 meetings.
