NEW ORLEANS: The Saints snapped the Falcons’ unbeaten streak with a 31-27 victory last Sunday in New Orleans. They covered as a 1-point home underdog and have now covered the number in back-to-back games. (They also covered as a 2.5-point home favorite versus the Eagles on Monday Night Football two weeks ago.) The victory was the Saints’ fourth in five games and they’ve quickly erased an 0-4 deficit to start the season. At 4-5 they still have a lot of work to do to catch the 8-1 Falcons in the NFC South, but with Drew Brees (2,847) in command of one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, don’t count New Orleans out. They’re now 5-4 against the spread while the over is 6-3 in the Saints’ first nine games.
OAKLAND: The Raiders have now lost two in a row and four of their last six games following their embarrassing 55-20 loss to the Ravens. Oakland has also failed to cover the spread in three of its last four games and in back-to-back losing efforts versus Tampa Bay (42-32) and Baltimore. Darren McFadden is once again likely to miss Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, although Carson Palmer and Denarius Moore have generated points through the air. If Palmer could limit the turnovers the team would be in decent shape but thus far, he can’t keep from making boneheaded decisions with the ball. The Raiders are now 3-6 overall and 3-6 against the spread in 2012.
ODDS: Oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv have installed the Saints as 4.5-point favorites versus the Raiders while the over/under total is currently sitting at 54.5 points. New Orleans is 4-5 overall and 1-3 on the road, while Oakland is 3-6 overall and 2-2 at home.
TRENDS: The Saints are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games in November and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Raiders are also 1-4-1 against the number in their last six home games but 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games in Week 11.
